Security Warning
Recently it has come to our attention that payment scams with regard to holiday rentals are becoming more common, and as such you should take care that the person that you deal with in regard to payment for villa rentals is genuine. Be very wary of anyone who asks you to make payments to an account with a name name that differs from the name of the villa owner or manager.
The latest scam is achieved by the fraudster somehow intercepting emails to and from the owner and the person making the enquiry, and instructing the person making the enquiry to confirm the booking by making payments into his/her own account. The fraud only comes to light when the genuine parties make telephone contact, or the person who thinks the booking has been made arrives at the holiday venue to find that there is no record of the booking. The emails to the enquirer seem to come from the email address of the villa owner, and vice versa, so the only real clue that a fraud is taking place is the instruction to pay funds into an account that is not that of the owner.
All of our owners are aware of the possibility of this scam, and positively welcome any sort of enquiry regarding the validity of their ownership or the nature of the financial transaction that guests booking villas are required to undertake. PLEASE feel free to ask villa owners for their personal telephone numbers so personal contact can be made, and don't hesitate to ask for proof that they own or manage the villa that is pertaining to the enquiry.
